Welsh language Crucial Crew hits the streets

A Welsh language version of the Crucial Crew electricity game is now being distributed in Wales, with 1000 bilingual CDs being shipped out this week.

The project, sponsored by electricity company Western Power Distribution, means that primary school children will be able to play the Crucial Crew Interactive electricity safety game in either English or Welsh. Teachers will also be able to access a Welsh version of the accompanying teacher packs and quiz for use in the classrooms.

“The message about safety is one that all parents want to make sure gets through to their children, so it’s vitally important that this valuable learning tool is available for children through the medium of Welsh," explained Llinos Iorwerth, a translator for Western Power Distribution.

English-speaking children have benefitted from a game teaching them about electricity safety since 2004, when Northern Electric and YEDL sponsored its original development. Further information about the guidelines for bilingual English/Welsh resources can be found at www.bwrdd-yr-iaith.org.uk/
