Parents of electrocuted boy back new Crucial Crew game - BBC reports

The parents of teenager Michael O'Nion, who died last year after climbing a pylon, have given their backing to Crucial Crew's Interactive's latest game - a mobile phone version of the electricity safety game.

Speaking on a special report on BBC television news, Michael's grandmother and father backed the new initiative in an emotional interview, saying they thought it might stop other children from making the same mistakes as Michael, who died instantly after the 60,000 volt electrocution.

"If Michael had known the dangers he would not have climbed that pylon - he loved life too much," said Pat O'Nion, adding that the family were keen that others would learn from Michael's mistakes, and lending their support to the new game.

In the second part of the BBC report, which was broadcast on BBC Look North on 9 and 10 July 2009, primary school pupils at Our Lady's RC Primary School in York tried out the game and gave their reactions - said one pupil: "I think it's a good game because, one - it teaches us to be safe, two - it's fun, and three - it's a genius game!"

This strong endorsement was echoed by Michael's family - grandmother Pat said: "If it's getting through to people, then it's a good thing."
